Well, here’s another from the edition of “People Behaving Badly Online:”
Suzy Harriston wanted to be friends on Facebook.
The profile said she was from Clayton and had more than 300 friends, many of them from Clayton High School.
No one seemed to question who Harriston was. That is, until the night of April 5, when a 2011 grad and former Clayton quarterback posted a public accusation.
“Whoever is friends with Suzy Harriston on Facebook needs to drop them. It is the Clayton Principal,” wrote Chase Haslett.
And then, Suzy Harriston disappeared, say those who saw the profile.

I’ll file this under the “Not illegal in many countries, but really, what were you thinking?” category.
This was a very interesting article. In our litigious society, how long until someone sues over defamation of character? The principal vs the popular football coach sounds like office politics taken to the next level. This principal did not set a good example for students, and her motives, ethics, and morals will be called into question for the rest of her career.
Hey Matt, thanks for sharing. This article just appeared in my Diigo account as well and thinking it is making the rounds within the COETAIL groups. I agree, what was she thinking! Clearly she wasn’t and as Justin has already commented will probably have an effect on who will hire her in the future.
Yeah…saw this the other day. Crazy and to me again shows that the Internet really is the wild west. She didn’t do anything wrong as far as breaking laws of any kind. What she broke was trust and ethics…..which I think the Internet is calling into question more and more with cases like this.
Without saying to much…I know schools who have not done exactly this….but have looked for ways to “get in” to the conversations that happen online within different communities.
We’ll see where all this goes!
